A Ho Ho Holiday Update

Posted by Natalie Best on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 0 comments
Busy busy bees we are this week.

Christmas has come and gone, and while the wrapping paper may be all cleaned up, the house is still alive with the Christmas spirit and lots of activity.
Jacob had a wonderful first Christmas, and was spoiled with lots of love and a good amount of toys:) He had so much fun hanging out with his family that we are just now getting him back on his sleeping schedule, only to disrupt it again tomorrow when we head out to Montreal to visit more friends and family for New Year. Here are a few pictures of Jacob chilling out on Christmas.

In other Jacob news, he has just this week begun to sit up unassisted without falling (too often). Jacob loves his floor time now because he can see more of what is going on. The downside to this is, he now never wants to lay down! He is always trying to sit up, and has been giving us a hard time come bed time because he's too excited and just wants to play. He really enjoys his bath time too (even more so) because he can now sit up and splash water everywhere. It has been such a great week watching him laugh and grow. Everyday we grow more proud of our little guy and fall a little more deeply in love.

Tis the Season to be Busy!

I apologize for the lack of updates recently. Not only is this time of year a little heavier on the calendar (like watching the olympic torch visit our wee town), but Jacob is learning new things everyday, and he takes up much more of my attention and time-not that I'm complaining:) Recently he's mastered the art of flipping himself over onto his stomach, and he has just this past week started to flip himself back. He is also able to sit up unassisted for up to a minute! Solid foods are going very well, except for the advice that the nurse gave me to start him on meat. Tried a little chicken: BARF! Tried a little turkey: BARF! I think we'll stick to the cereal and veggies for now. Awww, my little guy is growing up so fast! Next thing I know he will be crawling, walking, talking, talking back, graduating... but I get ahead of myself.
Here are some recent pictures, not to mention the piece de resistance: Jacob's first encounter with Santa. Enjoy! Happy Holidays:)

Let the Countdown Begin!

Only 23 days until Christmas! ;-)

We are getting very excited for the holiday season and have been busy putting up decorations and making cookies. Jacob loves to spend a few minutes each day staring at the Christmas tree, and the other day he even saw his first snowfall! Looking forward to a wonderful family filled Christmas:)

Yummy Yummy

Jacob and I had a wonderful time visiting grandparents in Montreal. It was a really relaxed week, but also a week of discovery for Jacob! He learned how to balance himself in his play saucer and reach for the toys he wanted, and his personality really began to blossom with more smiles and giggles. While we were visiting, I noticed that Jacob was increasingly more interested in my food, and would study me when I brought something to my mouth. So, when we got home, Paul went out and bought Jacob his first baby cereal! It was a messy start, but now, only 4 days into it, he is opening his mouth wide and Mmmming while he eats:) It's so cute to see him grow!

On the road again

Today Jacob and I are packing up the car full of baby gear and heading to Montreal to visit Grandma and Grandpa Best. It has been a couple of months since we were there last, so it will be fun to see their reactions to how much Jacob has grown! Lately, I find myself looking at him in awe, wondering where the time has gone and how big he is. This week will mark 5 months already! Here he is all bundled up to go outside in a suit that is for 6-9 months!

Bumbo

It took me too long to decide to get one of these. Jacob could have been using it for 2 months already, but I'm so cheap that I had to keep convincing myself that it was a good purchase until I finally believed it. The final selling point was that it has a really good resale value-should I ever decide to part with it. Right now though, it's our new favorite thing:)

Jacob was more excited about the box than his new Bumbo!Hangin' Out

Crabby Patty

Jacob is in one funk of a crabby mood today. Though he slept through the night completely (7-7 yay!!), he's been crying, screaming and whining all day. Thank goodness he gave me 5 minutes of snuggle time (rare) and that I put a new picture on my desktop to remind me of how cute he usually is. When it feels like it's getting to be too much, I take a 2 minute break and look at it, then back to the chaos. Half way through the day, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a better afternoon.

Catch-up

Sorry it's been a while since my last post. We've been keeping ourselves very busy to combat the dreary days of fall. Today it's off to Chapters and Ikea for a nice afternoon out of the house.
Here are some of the new developments with Jacob, who is now just over 4 months old, and already 15lbs 10 oz!

He is getting very good at tummy time, and holding his head up

Big smiles, as usual

Looking a little more like Paul every day-especially in plaid!

Jacob has discovered his tongue! He loves to stick it out and watch our reactions

And finally, it has been really neat to watch him learn a little more each day. He is mastering the reach and grab and he loves to bring everything to his mouth for a little taste:)
I promise to try a little harder to keep this blog updated (sorry Mom). Looking a head this week, Jacob will have his first Halloween, and I have a very special homemade costume for him. Bzzzz.....

We Love Fall!

Posted by Natalie Best on Tuesday, October 06, 2009 1 comments
Fall is one of my favorite times of year (actually, I think I like all season changes-just a little less for winter). I love how the air gets crisp and the colours change. Cold air seems to carry the smells of wood burning fireplaces, restaurants, and wet leaves so well. It's also the perfect time of year to pull out the cozy sweaters-especially those made by Memere:) Here is Jacob enjoying a fall afternoon walk in his sweater set made with love <3

Fall Family Fun

This weekend we went apple picking, a favorite activity of mine, at the orchard where we were married. It was nice to be back there and to have Jacob with us:)

Paul had to climb a tree to get the 'best' apples:)

The delicious apple cheese tart I made with our pickings
